Vacu Vin Cooling Carafe – Review

I invited some friends round for dinner last week, and two of them who are annoyingly punctual arrived on the doorstep before I had had time to put the white wine in the fridge. I was in a bit of a flap and hunting for ice when I remembered I had a Vacu Vin Rapid Ice Cooling Carafe. Being a red wine drinker myself, I had not yet had the opportunity to test run the product so I was quite excited at the prospect. Sadly, I even started to give my friends a step by step demonstration of how it worked, teamed with a bit of a spiel on Vacu Vin and their range of innovative kitchen accessories (serves them right for turning up on time!)

The cooling carafe is ridiculously easy to use and it actually did chill the wine in five minutes, as advertised. Obviously I would have had a slight problem on my hands had the ice pack elements not already been frozen, but so long as the freezer is considered their home whenever they aren’t in use, I wouldn’t really consider that an issue.

The thing I like the most about the Vacu Vin wine cooling carafe is that, as well as being functional and chilling wine rapidly, it looks good enough to be left on the table and simply used as a carafe. Obviously after a few hours, the ice packs will begin to melt, especially in a warm room, but even when they are not fully frozen, they still do a good job of keeping refrigerated wine cool while it is on the table, so you can decant a bottle and not have to keep nipping back to the fridge.

Since christening the Cooling Carafe, I have also been using the glass part for red wine, when there is no one in the house drinking white, as it still looks sleek and stylish on its own.

Overall, I’m very impressed with this product. It is functional, stylish, easy to use, easy to clean and exceptional value for money. I would certainly recommend it to a friend. In fact, I’m pretty sure I did….
