This 1.8 litre glass jar from Kilner is ideal for storing and preserving food. A timeless kitchen accessory, these glass jars have been in production since 1842, when John Kilner of Yorkshire, England founded the John Kilner & Co glass company, and although they are primarily built for their functionality and practicality, they have also become a somewhat decorative kitchen item!
This particular push top style is airtight and simple to use. The glass lid has a rubber seal attached to it so that whatever is stored inside is kept fresh. This push top lid is also far easier to open that the notoriously difficult screw top jars.
Traditionally, Kilner jars are used to store and preserve homemade jams, marmalades and other relishes. They can also be used for pickling eggs, or onions or garlic and nowadays are quite commonly used for storing dry foods, such as pasta or rice.
Kilner jars are very traditional in their appearance and, although originally designed with functionality in mind, they look great as a decorative accessory as well. They can also be filled with sweets or nuts to make lovely gifts that can be used over and over again!
