Nkuku was established by Ali & Alex Cooke after a life-changing trip around the world, during which they were inspired by the skilled craftspeople they encountered. The couple relocated from London to rural Devon to collaborate with artisans worldwide, bringing their products to a wider audience.
The brand’s name is derived from a village in Zambia, where the Cookes wrote their business plan on a paperback book cover, which led to their first product, stylish leather journals that they still offer. Nkuku’s hands-on approach is still the same as when it was founded, personally meeting and working with their artisan makers to ensure that each product has a unique story to tell.
We discovered the Nkuku brand at a trade show in 2019, and were immediately drawn to their unique and high-quality homewares. From handwoven throws to industrial dining tables, their products exude culture and diversity. We are proud to offer the Nkuku brand in our store because all of their products are ethically made, eco-friendly, and handcrafted. Their design philosophy aligns with our own ethos, utilizing materials that stand the test of time, shapes, textures, and patterns that remain relevant across seasons. Ultimately, Nkuku aims to provide items that customers will cherish for years to come, breaking away from the fast-fashion approach to homewares.
