The Mason Cash Brand
Mason Cash started in the 1800’s in a pottery in Church Gresley, Derbyshire. Church Gresley was close to all the raw materials and fuel sources needed to make ceramics. The excellent transport links also made it easy to transport their goods all over the UK, and even the world.
The pottery produced kitchen items made from ‘white and cane’ glazed earthenware sometimes known as ‘yellow ware’. This was due to the colour of the local clay, but has now become the signature colour of Mason Cash recognised all over the world.
A series of Master Potters ran the pottery, the most colourful of whom was ‘Bossy’ Mason. The ‘Mason’ name was inspired by Bossy in the 1800’s. Tom Cash acquired the pottery in 1901 and renamed the company Mason Cash & Co.
The iconic cane mixing bowl was designed and manufactured in 1901, and the design has barely altered to this day. The design of the bowl has endured the test of time, and become something of a design classic. The white pudding basin was introduced as the partner to the classic cane mixing bowl. This is now another staple Mason Cash product, which is still used in the Royal Household for the Royal Christmas pudding!
