This medium, white ceramic pestle and mortar from Mason Cash is a necessity for every household, and is the best way to grind and crush herbs and spices. Based on the original fully vitrified, high quality models produced over 200 years ago, it is durable, practical and long lasting.
Established in the 1800s, and renowned for their timeless designs and high quality, Mason Cash have been synonymous with domestic kitchenware and bakeware for over two centuries. They are now recognised all over the world, with some products still being used in the Royal British Household.
The first ceramic pestle and mortars were designed in the 1800s by famous English potter, Josiah Wedgewood. He used pottery to overcome the previous problems of acids attacking marble mortars and wooden ones becoming contaminated. His nephew, Ralph was, at that time, the manager of the pottery in Derbyshire where Mason Cash produced all their pestle and mortars, to a very similar design to that of Josiah’s.
These pestle and mortars are extremely long lasting, made from fully vitrified ceramic, with a matt finish ensuring a tough, non-absorbent surface, which is resistant to grinding, and will not absorb any stains or flavours. The glazed exterior provides good grip and easy cleaning.
Mason Cash are known for their quality products and this is no exception. Chip resistant and dishwasher safe, this is the perfect addition to any traditional or modern kitchen.
