Whether you’re a sweet or savoury kind of person, Britain’s classic bakes are undeniably delicious. These treats are guaranteed to be gracing the shelves of every bakery you could wish to find whilst in Britain, they are the staples, the iconic must-haves of our baked-goods scene. We thought it would be interesting to see just how much we could adapt these traditional recipes to suit our ever changing modern day tastes, some of these are pretty ‘out there’ and some are just plain brilliant.

To begin we did some research into what Britain’s Classic Bakes are:

The Bakewell Tart

Beautifully British, the Bakewell is always a hit, but could it really be improved? We are transforming this one into a gorgeous little Cherry Bakewell Cupcake, with a little help from Jane’s Patisserie this transformation began. View the recipe here.

 

Scones

As a vital member of Cream Tea, Afternoon Tea and High Tea the scone may just be one of the most famous and delicious British bakes that exists. Slather with cream and strawberry jam and you have yourself a desert and a half; but could it get even better? We are very excited to bring you this recipe from Take A Megabite, for a Giant Scone Cake. Yes you read that correctly, this cake is simply an oversized scone, this concept it so simple and looks even more delicious than a regular scone. Victoria Sponge Cake

There isn’t much you can do to improve a classic Victorias Sponge, it ticks all the boxes. That said, we are very big fans of anything miniature and giant for that matter. Butterfly Cakes

Apple Crumble

Another timeless classic, one that we would have bet our last nickel couldn’t have been improved… Until now. The dreamy combination of vanilla ice-cream and apple crumble have had a love-child, all thanks to Heinstirred, view their recipe here.

Lemon Drizzle Cake

Light, summery and satisfying. Lemon drizzle is a surefire winner, every time. Inspired by the classic lemon drizzle cake, these Lemon Drizzle Blondies will definitely hit the spot. This recipe is from Crazy for Crust and you can view it here.

White Loaf

Bread and butter, the staple of the nation. Perfect for sandwiches, french toast, grilled cheese, all breakfasts, to dip in soups, the list goes on and on.
