How To Make The Most Of Twixmas This Year

Emmie by the fire with mug

Whilst the term ‘Twixmas’ might not be familiar to you, the time most certainly will be. It’s that glorious period between Christmas and New Year where time itself doesn’t really exist at all. The name is thought to come from a mix of the old english word ‘betwixt’, which means ‘between’ and Christmas.

What does this period mean to you, and how do you usually feel? Exhausted from Christmas party after Christmas party? Still on a high from winning all the festive games? Or are you working, or preparing for the new year at this time?

Regardless of how you usually spend it, here are some Silver Mushroom suggestions of how to make the most of your Twixmas this year:

Enjoy Something That You Ran Out Of Time To Do In December

I’m sure we’re all guilty of saying ‘This December I will definitely…’, and never actually doing it. I have half made home-made Christmas presents, lists of recipes that I was going to make and never did, and plenty of festive films I ran out of time to watch. Life gets in the way, and before you know it, it’s Christmas Eve and you still haven’t wrapped your presents that you bought a month ago.

So, with that in mind, why not spend Twixmas catching up on these things? It’s still the 12 days of Christmas, after all! If you have some time off work, it’s the perfect time to make some delicious treats to pass around to your guests. Our Terry’s Chocolate Orange Cookies are a wonderful choice to make a dent on the pile of your Christmas chocolates! Cookies this delicious deserve to be made in bakeware just as beautiful.

Relax

The festive period without doubt, whilst exciting, is absolutely exhausting. Your social battery is probably teetering on empty, and you will need to switch off for a little while. If you’re lucky enough to have the time off work to do so, spend your time relaxing and rejuvenating. This way you’ll be back on full energy for New Years Eve.

Snuggle up in your favourite blanket in front of the fire, with a book or your favourite TV show. Twixmas TV is often full of reruns and Christmas specials that you watch every year, but love them all the same.

Take your time to focus on self-care. Some might spend a few days alcohol (and socialising) free, others may choose to spend relaxing time with their family. Self-care might also mean face masks, long baths, and relaxing preparation to look glitz and glam on New Years Eve. Whatever ‘self-care’ means to you, make time for it this Twixmas, so you can go into the new year with a new lease of life.

Curate The Perfect NYE Cocktails

New Year’s Eve, the penultimate day of Twixmas, is often what we spend our time preparing for during this period. The big day is over, and now it’s time to focus on the final big evening of the festive season. Whether you’re heading out, going for dinner, or hosting a party at home, there’s always lots to think about.

New Year’s Eve is an exciting time to bring out your favourite festive drinks, especially if you have guests over. Champagne, festive cocktails, or even hot chocolate, whatever your tipple of choice may be. It’s also a great excuse to practise them in advance. You know what they say, practice makes perfect. It’s simply a necessity to impress your guests.

We opted for spiced mulled cider and Baileys smores cocktails this year.

Make The Most Of Leftovers And Party Food

In my house, we spend the week before Christmas not being allowed to eat anything in the fridge, because it’s reserved for the big dinner. Then after Christmas, you have nothing in the fridge to eat but leftovers. And how glorious that is. You finally get to eat it all to your heart’s content.

Make the most of your leftovers with Christmas dinner sandwiches every day, or spruce them up into new recipes. Either way, they’re sure to be delicious, and one of my favourite parts of Twixmas.

Mood Board For 2024

Last but not least, it might be time to start thinking about the new year. I’m sure there’s already one or two things on your mind that you’ve said, ‘I’ll start in the new year’. Well, the new year is almost upon us.

One way to get your 2024 plans, hopes and new habits in order is by thinking about a mood board. You can fill your mood board with the trips you’re dreaming about, home renovations, activities you can’t wait to try out, or New Year’s Resolutions you hope to achieve. Being able to see all these ideas visually, can organise them and ensure that they seem exciting, rather than something to worry about!

Happy Twixmas from the Silver Mushroom Team X
