What On Earth is Butter Coffee?

You may have read the title of this blog and clicked through out of pure disgust, or genuine interest and we totally understand why you may feel this way. The thought of butter in your coffee? Gross, right? Stick with us here..

For the last few months the whole internet has been swarming with talk of all things Ketogenic. Normally we simply scroll past but something out of the ordinary started popping up and we had to investigate.

People are talking of a new drink called Butter Coffee, inspired by the Tibetan drink, Yak Butter Tea from the Himalayas. Not only is this Butter Coffee supposed to be the creamiest, most delicious way to make coffee, but it supposedly sharpens your brain to the point where you feel like a real life super hero. People are claiming that Butter Coffee has changed their lives for ever. It helps them sleep, it improved their metabolism beyond reason and makes them more alert than ever before.

Why Butter Coffee began?..

Apparently, aside from being inspired by Yak Butter Tea, Dave Asprey who began this epidemic, said that the reason he first melted butter into his coffee was after reading how children with epilepsy, on a high fat diet (ketogenic diet) had lower risk of seizures, and how Alzheimers patients could benefit from eating more coconut oil. He proposed that there must be a link between health benefits and a high fat diet. He found that the beneficial link between these two types of patients, is something called ketones. Nutritional ketosis, in short, is trying to get energy from fat. How to Make it

The best way to get a feel for the benefits of Butter Coffee is to simply give it a go! Don’t knock it ’till you’ve tried it, as they say.
A good quality French-Press is essential in making your own Butter Coffee. The press gives the coffee a chance to really soak in the freshly boiled water, giving it a delicious ‘full’ flavour. Lucky for you, we have a lovely selection right at your finger tips. View our Coffee-ware here.
